Marshmallow Root (Althaea officinalis) is a gentle, soothing herb that has been valued for centuries in kitchens and home apothecaries alike. These cut and sifted root pieces are rich in natural mucilage, giving them a smooth, comforting quality that makes them ideal for teas, infusions, and homemade syrups.

Traditionally prepared as a cold infusion or decoction, marshmallow root adds a soft, earthy flavor to tea blends and works beautifully in body care recipes such as salves, balms, and herbal rinses. Grown in the USA, this versatile root is a homestead staple for culinary and DIY projects.

Ingredients: Organic Marshmallow Root

Are all of your ingredients organic?

We love providing herbs that are fresh, pure, and of the highest quality. Whenever possible, we source from small family farms that grow with care for the land. Some of our partners are USDA-certified organic, while others practice organic methods but choose not to certify due to the cost.

Because our own facility is not USDA-certified, we don’t label our finished products as “organic.” Instead, you’ll see “organic” noted in the ingredient lists when that particular ingredient was grown on a certified organic farm. We want to stay transparent while still offering you the cleanest, most responsibly grown ingredients we can find.

We’re grateful to support local growers, and we believe that when ingredients are raised with integrity, you can taste and feel the difference in every cup.

Herbs are legally sold by the ounce but often we get asked how many cups are in a bag.

This herb has an approximate average of 6 cups per pound.

Marshmallow root can be:

  • Steeped in teas (best as a cold infusion)
  • Simmered into syrups and decoctions
  • Incorporated into skincare products such as creams or balms
  • Blended with other roots and herbs for custom apothecary projects

Store in an airtight container away from temperature extremes and sunlight.
