Oregano (Origanum onites) is a mint family member, often treated as an annual. Closely related to Marjoram, it may be referred to by either name. Smelling the fresh leaf or gently crushing the dried herb helps identify it. Use in tomato soups & stews, soaps and lotions; also turn into tinctures & infused oils.
Oregano has a savory, peppery, pungent flavor and aroma used in Italian, Spanish, Mexican, Indian and Moroccan cuisines.
