Elecampane Root, Organic

Elecampane (Inula helenium) is a member of the daisy family native to Europe, but naturalized elsewhere. Its roots contain inulin, a type of food-grade fiber used to sweeten processed foods and as prebiotic nutrition. Infuse in oil and alcohol for topical applications or to make balms, salves and teas. Be aware of its strength – too much may cause vomiting, diarrhea and even paralysis, so those with inulin sensitivities should stay away. Pregnant and nursing individuals should avoid it altogether.
