Long valued as both a culinary ingredient and traditional herb, chicory root has earned a place in the herbal pantry for generations. Roasting transforms the root into a dark, aromatic ingredient with an earthy, robust flavor that has long been brewed on its own or combined with coffee and other roasted herbs.

For those exploring caffeine-free drinks, roasted chicory root can be brewed much like coffee for a deep, satisfying cup without the caffeine. It also makes a wonderful blending ingredient for creating your own homemade coffee alternatives alongside roasted dandelion root, cacao, warming spices, and other favorite herbs.

From the Herbal Pantry to Your Morning Mug

  • Brew roasted chicory root on its own for a naturally caffeine-free drink.
  • Add to coffee for a deeper, roasted flavor or to stretch your favorite grounds.
  • Blend with roasted dandelion root to create your own homemade coffee alternative.
  • Combine with cacao, cinnamon, vanilla, or mushrooms for custom herbal drink blends.
  • Use in herbal tea blends and other culinary creations.
  • A versatile bulk herb for the kitchen and herbal pantry.

Pro Tip: Chicory and dandelion make natural brewing companions. Start with equal parts roasted chicory root and roasted dandelion root, then adjust the ratio until you find the rich, roasted flavor that suits your morning mug.

Ingredients: Ingredients: Organic Roasted Chicory Root

Are all of your ingredients organic?

Herbs are legally sold by the ounce but often we get asked how many cups are in a bag.

This herb has an approximate average of 3 cups per pound.

Brew a Cup of Roasted Chicory Root: Add 1–2 teaspoons of roasted chicory root per 8 ounces of hot water. Steep or simmer for 5–10 minutes, strain, and adjust the amount to your preferred strength.

Create Your Own Coffee Alternative: Combine roasted chicory root with roasted dandelion root, cacao nibs, cinnamon, vanilla, or other favorite herbs and spices. Brew as you would a strong herbal tea and enjoy plain or with your favorite milk and sweetener.

Blend With Coffee: Chicory has a long culinary history of being combined with coffee. Add a small amount to your usual coffee grounds for extra roasted depth and experiment to find your favorite ratio.

Beyond the Mug: Use chicory root as a culinary ingredient in herbal blends and recipes where its deep, roasted flavor is welcome.

Store in an airtight container away from temperature extremes and sunlight.

Root

Chicory root is a concentrated source of inulin and may cause digestive discomfort, gas, or bloating in some individuals, particularly when consumed in larger amounts. Individuals with allergies to plants in the Asteraceae (daisy) family should use caution. Consult your healthcare provider before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or managing a medical condition. Those with a history of gallstones or gallbladder concerns should consult a qualified healthcare professional before regular use.
