Chives, Allium schoenoprasum, are the smallest onion family member. Native to Asia, Europe and North America, they've been used in cooking for thousands of years. Steep chives as tea or use as a spice on potatoes, soups, veggies, stir fries and omelets. Mix with dill for dips and herbal butters. Combine with garlic to flavor soups, stews and braised foods. Plant with other herbs and veggies to repel harmful insects.
