Rose Hips (Rosa canina) are the vibrant, tart fruits of wild roses, often referred to as rose haw. These cut and sifted hips are valued for their tangy, fruity flavor and their versatility in both the kitchen and the home apothecary.

During World War II, rose hips became widely used in Britain as a local substitute for citrus fruit, brewed into syrups and teas when imported fruit was scarce. Today, they remain a favorite for teas, jellies, jams, soups, oils, and infusions, adding brightness and depth wherever they are used.

Naturally caffeine-free, rose hips are a staple for blending into fruit teas and are equally at home in culinary recipes and craft projects.

Everyday Uses on the Homestead

  • Brew into a tart, fruity tea on its own or blended with hibiscus and mint.

  • Simmer into syrups, jams, or jellies for a tangy finish.

  • Incorporate into soups, sauces, or baked goods for a unique, citrus-like note.

  • Infuse into oils or vinegars for apothecary or culinary creations.

I made Elderberry / Rose Hip syrup.

My allergies are kicking. Even when I control the drainage, I am still coughing. I read the benefits of an elderberry/rose hip syrup and made some using this rose hip tea. The results were amazing. The taste was great, and my control of the cough was just about instant.

Our family's top # 1 remedy!

I am so pleased with the quality of these rose hips! My toddlers really like to drink this tea even with no sugar. You can feel its potency right when you drink it! Even after using them as a tea the rose hips produce some wonderful type of honey-syrup by themselves.
I like to use it all, so after making a tea I like to blend them with water and honey and drink it for even additional benefits.

First time !

This is the first time I am using them, added them to a batch of elderberry syrup that is simmering now.
Wanted to add some extra benefits to this batch with Fall coming soon.
