As the days grow shorter and frosty winds return, many homesteaders have kept a special blend of herbs close at hand for the first signs of winter discomfort. Our First Signs Tincture Mix combines licorice root, echinacea angustifolia root, mullein, and red root—plants traditionally valued in farmhouse apothecaries when the cold months settled in and families needed extra warmth and care.

This “dump-and-go” mix makes it simple to prepare your own tincture at home. Just add 100-proof alcohol (or vegetable glycerine), steep for two weeks, strain, and bottle. It’s a heritage-inspired way to keep your pantry and apothecary cupboard stocked as the seasons shift into fall and winter.

For traditional apothecary preparation. Not for use during pregnancy or while nursing. Consult a qualified healthcare provider before use if taking medications or managing a medical condition. Avoid excessive use with high blood pressure due to licorice root. Those with allergies to plants in the daisy/ragweed family should avoid echinacea.

This REALLY works!

My first purchase was last fall. Simple to make and when used at the “first signs” of any illness, we were recovered within 2-3 days! This spring we ran out so I made my second purchase. We’ll be keeping this on hand, we loved it!

So good I bought some for my friends!

This tincture is just what I like to have on hand heading into winter. I'm bottling my tinctures up and got extra herbs for my friends so they can stay healthy too! Great company, I am ordering more soon!

Love having this ready

I don’t have to take this often (Thank You, Jesus!), but appreciate having to ready on the shelf when I do. It really helps lessen symptoms and recovery time. Sometimes, I take it at first sign of illness, go to bed to rest and have NO sign of whatever was trying to develop upon awakening next morning! LOVE this stuff!

Medicine Cabinet Must!

I first learned of first signs tincture in a class held by Melissa K. Norris. Both my husband and I took it at the first signs of a bug going around, and we believe the tincture stopped it from becoming a full fledged infection. A friend got the same bug which had turned into a nasty cough with respiratory symptoms. I shared a bottle of first signs tincture, and his symptoms were gone in a few days. In fact, his wife said they both got a good night's sleep the day he began taking this tincture! I highly recommend keeping some on hand ... Just in case!

My first line of defense!

I’m so thankful for this First Signs Tincture Mix! It’s so easy to make and loaded with all the goodness to help my immune system counterattack whatever virus that sneaks in. I always keep one batch made up and ready to use and have another mix in the pantry, just in case.

First signs tincture

We have to have this on hand every winter, if taken regularly, I find that it can hold off colds or lessen the symptoms. I take this at the first sign of a sore throat! The tincture process is pretty simple and easy to follow.
